Investigation Underway into Unexpected Deaths of Two Interior Decorators in Taipei
Taiwan Shilin District Prosecutors Office are investigating the unexpected deaths of two interior decorators who were found dead inside an ottoman bed in a residential building in Taipei’s Neihu District. The deceased, 24 and 27 years of age, were discovered shortly after midnight on Tuesday after an evening of no contact with their family members.
A Report of the Incident
A police report was filed at 10:54 p.m. on Tuesday after family members attempted to locate the two men who had reportedly arrived at the apartment earlier in the day at 7:30 a.m. After family members heard ringing from a bedroom inside the apartment, they discovered the bodies of the two men inside an unfinished 63-centimeter tall, 179-cm long, 78-cm wide ottoman bed.
No Signs of External Issues
A preliminary investigation into the incident has found no external signs of injury on the bodies and no signs of struggle at the scene, leading prosecutors to believe there was no external involvement in their deaths. While a strong scent of decorating materials was present in the room, investigation into the substances did not reveal any traces of toxins inside the apartment.
Further Investigation and Prospect of an Occupational Safety Study
Prosecutors are now pursuing additional evidence and computer tomography to answer the question of what killed the workers. In parallel, the Taipei City government’s Department of Labor is considering whether to open an occupational safety investigation into the occurrence.
